Robert Alexier Mundell (1932-2021)

Awarded the Prize “for his analysis of monetary fiscal policy under different exchange rate regimes his analysis of optimum currency areas.”

American economist. Mundell was born on October 24, 1932 at Kingston, Canada. After studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology the London School of Economics, he received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1956. He taught at Stanford University The Johns Hopkins Bologna Center of Advanced International Studies before joining the staff of the International Monetary Fund in 1961. From 1966 to 1971 he was Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. Since 1974, he has been teaching at the Columbia University, where he is C. Lowell Harris Professor of Economics. Robert A. Mundell died on April 4, 2021 in Siena, Italy.
