Aleksr Isaevich Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008)
Awarded the Prize “for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable traditions of Russian literature.”Soviet writer. Solzhenitsyn was born at Kislovodsk, Russia on December 11, 1918. He graduated in mathematics from Rostov University took correspondence courses in literature at Moscow State University. He served in an artillery troop in the World War II. In 1945, he was arrested sentenced on the charge of “opposition to Soviet Union”. His works were criticized severely publicly in Soviet Union. He was sent into exile abroad in 1974, first in Switzerl later the United States. Solzhenitsyn died in Moscow of Russia on August 3, 2008.
