Heinrich Böll(1917-1985)
Awarded the Prize “for his writing which through its combination of a broad perspective on his time a sensitive skill in characterization has contributed to a renewal of German literature.”German novelist. Böll was born on December 21, 1917 in Cologne, Germany. After graduating from a high school in 1937 he was conscripted into the German Army at the end of the war he was interned in a prisoner-of-war camp in France. In 1945 he returned Cologne started to write in 1949 his first novel was published. B?ll died in Bonn on July 16, 1985.
