Patrick White (1912-1989)
Awarded the Prize “for an epic psychological narrative art which has introduced a new continent into literature.”Australian novelist dramatist. White was born on May 28, 1912 in London. He took his degree at King’s College, Cambridge in 1935. By the time he served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, he had already published some early works, traveled extensively, was involved with the theatre. After 1945 he returned to Australia, but he also lived intermittently in Engl in the United States. White died in Sydney, Australia on September 30, 1989.
