Saul Bellow (1915-2005)
Awarded the Prize “for the human understing subtle analysis of contemporary culture that are combined in his work.”American novelist. Bellow was born in Lachine, Quebec, Canada on June 10, 1915. He moved to Chicago with his family in 1924. In 1933 he entered the University of Chicago, but transferred to Northwestern University, where he graduated in 1937. He aboned his postgraduate studies at Wisconsin University to become a writer. He once held various posts at the Universities of Minnesota, New York, Princeton Puerto Rico. His first novel was published in 1944. In 1962 he was appointed as a professor at University of Chicago. Bellow died on April 5, 2005 in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA.
