Jaroslav Seifert (1901-1986)
Awarded the Prize “for his poetry which endowed with freshness, sensuality rich inventiveness provides a liberating image of the indomitable spirit versatility of man.”Czech poet. Seifert was born in Prague on September 23, 1901. To start his career as a journalist, Seifert dropped his high school studies, worked for the Communist Party newspaper Rudé Pravo. In 1929 he was expelled from the Communist Party. Seifert died in Prague on January 10, 1986.
