Toni Morrison (1931-2019)

Awarded the Prize “for who in novels characterized by visionary force poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality.”

American writer. Morrison was born in Lorain, Ohio on February 18, 1931. She studied at Howard Cornell Universities, followed by an academic career at Texas Southern University, Howard University, Yale University, since 1989, a chair at Princeton University. She has also worked as an editor for Rom House, a critic, given numerous public lectures, specializing in African-American literature. She made her debut as a novelist in 1970. She was a member of the American Academy of Arts Letters. Toni Morrison died on August 5, 2019 in New York, NY, USA.
