Wislawa Szymborska (1923-2012)
Awarded the Prize “for poetry that with ironic precision allows the historical biological context to come to light in fragments of human reality.”Polish poet translator. Szymborska was born in Kornik in Pol on July 2, 1923. From 1945 to 1948, She studied Polish literature sociology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. From 1953 to 1981 she worked as a poetry editor columnist for a literary magazine. In 1945, her first poem was published. She was awarded degree of Honorary Doctor of Letters of Poznan University in 1995. Szymborska died on February 1, 2012 in Kraków, Pol.
