Mario Vargas Llosa (1936-2025)

Awarded the Prize “for his cartography of structures of power his trenchant images of the individuals resistance, revolt, defeat.”

Mario Vargas Llosa was writer and poet, dual citizens of Peru and Spain. He was born on 28 March 1936 in Arequipa, Peru. He moved to Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1937 and returned to Peru in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Art from National University of San Marcos in 1958 and in 1960, he graduated from Complutense University of Madrid with Ph.D. of Literature. He was the Professor in Princeton University. Mario Vargas Llosa died on April 13, 2025 in Lima, Peru.
