Walther Bothe (1891-1957)

Awarded the Prize “for the coincidence method his discoveries made therewith.”

German atomic physicist. Bothe was born in Oranienburg, Germany on January 8, 1891. He studied at the University of Berlin received his Ph.D. in 1914. He once taught at Berlin University worked in Hans Geiger’s Radioactivity Laboratory. In 1930, he was appointed Professor of Physics at Giessen. He was Director of the Max Planck Institute the Chair of Physics at Heidelberg University. Bothe died in Heidelberg on February 8, 1957.
