Willis Eugene Lamb (1913-2008)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the fine structure of the hydrogen spectrum.”

American physicist. Lamb was born in Los Angeles on July 12, 1913. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley received a B.Sc. in 1934, obtained his Ph.D. from the same university in 1938. He was Professor of Columbia University, Stanford University, the University of Oxford, Yale University the University of Arizona. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Lamb died in Tucson, Arizona on May 15, 2008.
