
Polykarp Kusch (1911-1993)
Awarded the Prize “for his precision determination of the magnetic moment of the electron.”American physicist. Kusch was born in Blankenburg, Germany on January 26, 1911. His family moved to the United States in 1912, he became a naturalized American citizen in 1922. He graduated from the Case Institute of Technology in 1931 gained his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1936. His career at Columbia University took him to associate professorship, professorship, Executive Director of the Columbia Radiation Laborrstory, Vice President Dean of the Faculty, Executive Vice president Provost. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Kusch died on March 20, 1993 in Dallas, Texas.
