Max Ferdinand Perutz (1914-2002)

Awarded the Prize “for his studies of the structures of globular proteins.”

British biochemist. Perutz was born on May 19, 1914 in Vienna. From 1932 to 1936 he studied chemistry at Vienna University and then moved to Cambridge. In 1940 he received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University. He became the chairman of the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology of Cambridge University in March 1962. Perutz died on February 6, 2002 in Cambridge, England.
