
Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin (1910-1994)
Awarded the Prize “for her determinations by X-ray techniques of the structures of important biochemical substances.”British chemist. Hodgkin was born in Cairo, Egypt on May 12, 1910. She was educated at Somerville College, Oxford. After a brief period as a postgraduate student at Cambridge University, she returned to Oxford in 1934 spent her entire academic career there. She served as Wolfson Research Professor of the Royal Society from 1960 until 1977. Hodgkin died on July 29, 1994 at Engl.
