Odd Hassel (1897-1981)

Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the development of the concept of conformation its application in chemistry.”

Norwegian chemist. Hassel was born in Oslo on May 17, 1897. He was educated at the university there in Berlin where he obtained his doctorate in 1924. He immediately returned to the University of Oslo served there as Professor of Chemistry from 1934 until his retirement in 1964. Hassel died there on May 11, 1981.
