
Christian Boehmer Anfinsen (1916-1995)
Awarded the Prize “for his work on ribonuclease, especially concerning the connection between the amino acid sequence the biologically active conformation.”American biochemist. Anfinsen was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1916. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School. He taught at Harvard Medical School from 1943 to 1950, when he moved to the National Heart Institute at Bethesda. In 1963 he joined the National Institute of Arthritis Metabolic Diseases at Bethesda, where he was appointed Head of the Laboratory of Chemical Biology. In 1982 he became Professor of Biology at Johns Hopkins University. Anfinsen died on May 14, 1995 in Rallstown, Maryl of United States.
