Stanford Moore (1913-1982)

Awarded the Prize “for his contribution to the understing of the connection between chemical structure catalytic activity of the active centre of the ribonuclease molecule.”

American biochemist. Moore was born on September 4, 1913 in Chicago. He graduated from Verbilt University in 1935 received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1938. He then joined the staff of the Rockefeller Institute, spending his entire career there serving as Professor of Biochemistry from 1952 onward. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences American Academy of Arts Sciences. In 1970 he was elected President of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Moore died in Manhattan on August 23, 1982.
