Ernst Otto Fischer (1918-2007)

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering work, performed independently, on the chemistry of the organometallic, so called swich compounds.”

German chemist. Fischer was born in Solln, near Munich on November 10, 1918. He was educated at the Munich Institute of Technology, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1952. He taught at the University of Munich serving as Professor of Inorganic Chemistry from 1957 to 1964, when he became the Director of the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at the Institute of Technology. Fischer died on July 23, 2007 in Munich, Germany.
