Vladimir Prelog (1906-1998)

Awarded the Prize “for his research into the stereochemistry of organic molecules reactions.”

Swiss chemist. Prelog was born on July 23, 1906 in Sarajevo in Bosnia Hercegovina. He studied chemistry at the Prague Institute of Technology where he received his doctorate in 1929. He then worked in Prague as an industrial chemist until 1935 when he moved to the University of Zagreb. In 1941 he joined the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, serving as Professor of Chemistry from 1950. In1959 he obtained Swiss citizenship. Prelog died on January 7, 1998 in Zurich, Switzerl.
