William Nunn Lipscomb (1919-2011)

Awarded the Prize “for his studies on the structure of boranes illuminating problems of chemical bonding.”

American chemist. Lipscomb was born on December 9, 1919 in Clevel, Ohio. After taking his bachelors degree at the University of Kentucky in 1941, he entered Graduate School at the California Institute of Technology obtained his Ph.D. in 1946. He was Professor of University of Minnesota as well as Harvard University. Lipscomb died on April 14, 2011 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
