
Ragnar Granit (1900-1991)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the primary physiological chemical visual processes in the eye.”Swedish physiologist. Granit was born on October 30, 1900 in Helsinki, Finl. He matriculated at Helsingfors University in 1919, took his M.D. in 1927 became docent in Physiology in 1929. From 1935 he held the office of Professor of Physiology. In 1940 he went to Harvard to the Royal Caroline Institute of Stockholm. In 1946 he received a personal research chair in Neurophysiology from the Ministry of Education. He was President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Granit died on March 12, 1991, in Stockholm.
