
Haldan Keffer Hartline (1903-1983)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the primary physiological chemical visual processes in the eye.”American physiologist. Hartline was born on December 22, 1903 at Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lafayette College in Easton in 1923 obtained his M.D. from Johns Hopkins in 1927. In 1940-1941 he was Associate Professor of Physiology at Cornell Medical College. In 1949 Hartline accepted a position at Johns Hopkins University as Professor of Biophysics Chairman of the Thomas C. Jenkins Department of Biophysics. In 1963 he joined the Rockefeller University. Hartline died on March 17, 1983 at Fallston, Maryl.
