
Har Gobind Khorana (1922-2011)
Awarded the Prize “for the interpretation of the genetic code its function in protein synthesis.”American biochemist. Khorana was born on January 9, 1922 at Raipur, India. He studied at the Punjab University in Lahore where he obtained his M.Sc. degree. In 1945 he went to the University of Liverpool took his Ph.D. in 1948. In 1960 Khorana moved to the Institute for Enzyme Research at the University of Wisconsin. He became a United States citizen in 1966. In 1970 he became Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Biology Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Khorana died on November 9, 2011 in Concord, Massachusetts.
