Max Delbrück (1906-1981)

Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the replication mechanism the genetic structure of viruses.”

American biologist. Delbrück was born on September 4, 1906 in Berlin. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of G?ttingen in 1930. In 1932, he worked in Berlin Copenhagen. He moved to the United States in 1937 went to California Institute of Technology. He accepted an instructorship in the Physics Department at Verbilt University in Nashville in 1940. In 1947, he returned to California Institute of Technology. Delbrück died on March 9, 1981 at Pasadena, California.
