
Earl W. Sutherl, Jr. (1915-1974)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the mechanisms of the action of hormones.”American biochemist. Sutherl was born on November 19, 1915 at Burlingame, Kansas. He received his B.S. degree at Washburn College in 1937, M.D. at School of Medicine, Washington University in 1942. He was Associate Professor of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Washington University, Professor Pharmacology Director of the Department, School of Medicine, Western Reserve University, Professor of Physiology, School of Medicine, Verbilt University, a member of the faculty of the University of Miami Medical School. Sutherl died on March 9, 1974 in Miami.
