Gerald M. Edelman (1929-2014)

Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the chemical structure of antibodies.”

American biochemist. Edelman was born on July 1, 1929 in New York City. He received his B.Sc. at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania in 1950 his M.D. at the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1954. In 1966, he took his Ph.D. at the Rockefeller Institute. In 1963, he became Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. Since 1966 he has been Professor of the Rockefeller University. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences the American Academy of Arts Sciences. Gerald M. Edelman died on May 17, 2014 in La Jolla, CA, USA.
