
Nikolaas Tinbergen (1907-1988)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning organization elicitation of individual social behaviour patterns.”British zoologist. Tinbergen was born on April 15, 1907 in The Hague. He was the brother of the economist Jan Tinbergen, the laureate of 1969 Nobel Prize for Economoics. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Leiden in 1932 taught there for seventeen years. He joined the faculty of the University of Oxford in 1949 became a British citizen in 1955. He was a member of the Royal Society in London. Tinbergen died on December 21, 1988 at Oxford, Engl.
