
Albert Claude (1899-1983)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the structural functional organization of the cell.”American cytologist. Claude was born on August 24, 1899 at Longlier, Belgium. He obtained his M.D. at Liége University, Belgium in 1928. Then he went to the United States began research at the Rockefeller Institute. He was Director emeritus of the Jules Bordet Institute for Cancer Researche Treatment, Professor emeritus, the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Brussels, Professor at the Rockefeller University. He was also Professor at the University Catholique de Louvain Director of the “Laboratoire de Biologie Cellulaire et Canc?rologie”, at the University Catholique de Louvain. Claude died on May 22, 1983 at Brussels.
