Christian de Duvé (1917-2013)

Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the structural functional organization of the cell.”

Belgian biologist. de Duvé was born on October 2, 1917 at Thames Ditton, Engl. He entered the Catholic University of Louvain in 1934, took his M.D. in 1941, becoming full professor in 1951. In 1962, he was appointed professor at the Rockefeller Institute in New York. He created the International Institute of Cellular Molecular Pathology in Louvain Medical School in Brussels. de Duvé died on May 4, 2013 in Nethen, Belgium.
