
Renato Dulbecco (1914-2012 )
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the interaction between tumour viruses the genetic material of the cell.”American virologist. Dulbecco was born on February 22, 1914 at Catanzaro, Italy. He obtained his M.D. from the University of Turin in 1936. He came to the United States in 1947 began work at Indiana University, California Institute of Technology, Salk Institute the University of California at San Diego. In 1972 he went to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories in London. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A. Dulbecco died on February 19, 2012 at La Jolla, California.
