
Howard Martin Temin (1934-1994)
Awarded the Prize “for the discoveries concerning the interaction between tumour viruses the genetic material of the cell.”American virologist. Temin was born on December 10, 1934 in Philadelphia. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1955 received his Ph.D. at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena in 1959. In 1960 he joined the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research in the Medical School, the University of Wisconsin became a Full Professor. He had also been a member of the Virology Study Section of the National Institutes of Health. Temin died on February 9, 1994 at Madison, Wisconsin.
