
Roger Guillemin (1924-2024)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the peptide hormone production of the brain.”American physiologist. Guillemin was born on January 11, 1924 at Dijon, France. He entered medical school in Dijon in 1943 received his M.D. degree from the Faculté de Médecine of Lyon in 1949. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Montreal in 1953. In 1965, he became an American citizen. Then he joined the Department of Physiology at the Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston. In 1970 he helped in creating the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California where he worked until retirement in 1989. Guillemin died on February 21, 2024 in Del Mar, CA, USA.
