Andrew V. Schally (1926-2024)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the peptide hormone production of the brain.”

American endocrinologist corecipient. Schally was born on November 30, 1926 at Wilno, (now Vilnius, Lithuania). He went to McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 1955 and receiving his Ph.D. in 1957. In 1957 he joined Baylor University in Houston. In 1962, he became an American citizen. He was made chief of endocrine polypeptide laboratories at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in New Orleans and joined the medical faculty of the Tulane University School of Medicine, becoming a professor in 1967. Schally died on October 17,  2024 in Miami Beach, FL, USA.
