
Rosalyn Sussman Yalow (1921-2011)
Awarded the Prize “for the development of radioimmunoassays of peptide hormones.”American medical physicist. Yalow was born on July 19, 1921 in New York City. She graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1941 four years later received her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois. From 1946 to 1950 she lectured on physics at Hunter, in 1947 she became a consultant in nuclear physics to the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital, where from 1950 to 1970 she was physicist assistant chief of the radioisotope service. She was a member of the National Academy of Sciences the American Academy of Arts Sciences. Yalow died on May 30, 2011 in the Bronx, New York.
