
Werner Arber (1929- )
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of restriction enzymes their application to problems of molecular genetics.”Swiss microbiologist. Arber was born on June 3, 1929 in Granichen, Switzerl. He graduated from the Swiss Polytechnical School in Zurich in 1953, received his Ph.D. at the University of Geneva. Then he worked at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In 1968, he became professor at the University of Basel.
