
Allan M. Cormack (1924-1998)
Awarded the Prize “for the development of computer assisted tomography.”American physicist. Cormack was born on February 23, 1924 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Cape Town, received his Bachelor in 1944 Master in 1945. Then he went to St. John’s College worked at the Cavendish Laboratory. He went to America in 1956 taught at the Tufts University, being Chairman of the Physics Department from 1968 to 1976. Cormack died on May 7, 1998 at Winchester, Massachusetts.
