Roger W. Sperry (1913-1994)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the functional specialization of the cerebral hemispheres.”

American neurobiologist. Sperry was born on August 20, 1913 at Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1935, took his M.A. in 1937. In 1941, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. In 1942, he joined Harvard as research fellow went to Chicago in 1946, becoming associate professor in 1952. In 1954 he became Hixon Professor of Psychobiology at California Institute of Technology. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences, USA, the American Academy of Arts Sciences. Sperry died on April 17, 1994 at Pasadena, California.
