Bengt I. Samuelsson (1934-2024)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning prostaglins related biologically active substances.”

Swedish biochemist. Samuelsson was born on May 21, 1934 at Halmstad, Sweden. After attending the University of Lund he moved to Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, obtained his doctorate in 1961. During 1967 to 1972, he was Professor of medical chemistry at Royal Veterinary College in Stockholm. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from 1973, Dean of the Medical Faculty from 1978, Rector from 1983 of Karolinska Institutet. He was elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1981. Samuelsson died on July 5, 2024 in Mölle, Sweden.
