John R. Vane (1927-2004)

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning prostaglins related biologically active substances.”

British biochemist. Vane was born on March 29, 1927 at Tardebigg, Worcestershire, Engl. He graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1946, obtained his doctorate at the University of Oxford in 1953. He worked at Yale University for two years, then moved to Engl, joining the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences of the University of London in the Royal College of Surgeons of Engl. He became research director of the Wellcome Research Laboratories, Beckenham, Kent in 1973. Vane died on November 19, 2004 in Farnborough, Engl.
