
Barbara McClintock (1902-1992)
Awarded the Prize “for her discovery of mobile genetic elements.”American immunologist. McClintock was born on June 16, 1902 at Hartford, Connecticut. She graduated from Cornell University in 1923 received her M.A. in 1925 Ph.D. in 1927. She became Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri in 1936, Staff Member at Carnegie Institution of Washington, Cold Spring Harbor in 1942 Andrew D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University in 1965. McClintock died on September 2, 1992 at Huntington, New York.
