Michael S. Brown (1941- )
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the regulation of cholesterol metabolism.”American molecular geneticist. Brown was born on April 13, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated in 1962 received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1971, he went to the division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, becoming a professor in 1976. In 1977 he was appointed Paul J. Thomas Professor of Medicine Genetics, Director of the Center for Genetic Disease. In 1985, Brown was appointed Regental Professor of the University of Texas.
