Joseph L. Goldstein (1940- )

Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the regulation of cholesterol metabolism.”

American molecular biologist medical scientist. Goldstein was born on April 18, 1940 at Sumter, South Carolina. He received his B.S. degree from Washington Lee University in 1962 took his M.D. degree in 1966 at Southwestern Medical School of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. He once worked at National Institutes of Health the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1976 he became Professor of he University of Texas Health Science Center. He was elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences in 1980.
