E. Donnall Thomas (1920-2012)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning Organ Cell Transplantation in the Treatment of Human Disease.”American physician. Thomas was born on March 15, 1920 at Mart, Texas. He received his B.A. in 1941 M.A. two years later, both at the University of Texas. In 1946 he was awarded his M.D. by Harvard University. Then he moved to the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital as hematologist assistant physician. He was the Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington a member of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Thomas died on October 20, 2012 in Seattle.
