Erwin Neher (1944- )
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the function of single ion channels in cells.”German biologist. Neher was born on March 20, 1944 at Lsberg, Germany. He gained his M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich. In 1972 he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Gottingen, being appointed research director in 1983. Two periods of research in America took him to Yale University the California Institute of Technology.
