Edmond H. Fischer (1920-2021)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning reversible protein phosphorylation as a biological regulatory mechanism.”American biochemist. Fischer was born on April 6, 1920 in Shanghai, China. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Geneva in 1947. In 1948 he joined the Swiss National Foundation as a research fellow. In 1950 he moved to the University of Washington, Seattle as a Rockefeller Foundation research fellow, in 1953 being appointed an assistant professor of biochemistry at the University of Washington, subsequently becoming associate professor professor. Fischer died on August 27, 2021 in Seattle, WA, USA.
