
Edwin Gerhard Krebs (1918-2009)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning reversible protein phosphorylation as a biological regulatory mechanism.”American biochemist. Krebs was born on June 6, 1918 in Lansing, Iowa. He received his B.A. at the University of Illinois, his M.D. at Washington University, Seattle in 1943. In 1968 he moved to the University of California, Davis. In 1977 he returned to Seattle as professor of pharmacology in the school of medicine. In the same year he joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as investigator, becoming senior investigator in 1980 emeritus professor in 1991. Krebs died on December 21, 2009 in Seattle, Washington.
