Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard (1942- )
Awarded the Prize “for her discoveries concerning the genetic control of early embryonic development.”German geneticist. Nüsslein-Volhard was born on October 20, 1942 at Magdeburg, Germany. She graduated from the University of Tübingen in 1968 received her Ph.D. in 1973. She became Head of group at European Molecular Biology Laboratory in 1978; Group leader in the Friedrich-Miescher-Laboratorium der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Tübingen in 1981; Scientific member of the Max-Planck-Society Director at the Max-Planck-Institut für Entwicklungsbiologie (Developmental Biology), Genetics Division, Tübingen in 1985.
