Eric F. Wieschaus (1947- )
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning the genetic control of early embryonic development.”American biologist. Wieschaus was born on June 8, 1947 at South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1969. In 1974 he gained his Ph.D. at Yale University. During 1975 to 1978 he was postdoctoral fellow at the University of Zürich. Then he became Group Leader at European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg. In 1981 he joined Princeton University, becoming a Professor in 1987.
