Stanley B. Prusiner (1942- )
Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of Prions - a new biological principle of infection.”American neurologist. Prusiner was born on May 28, 1942 at Des Moines, Iowa. He took his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964, his M.D. at School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. In 1984 he became Professor of Neurology at the University of California at San Francisco Professor of Virology in Residence at the University of California at Berkeley. Since 1988 he has been the Professor of Biochemistry at the University of California at San Francisco.
