Ferid Murad (1936-2023)
Awarded the Prize “for his discoveries concerning nitric oxide as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system.”
American pharmacologist. Murad was born on September 14, 1936 at Whiting, Indiana. He received his M.D. in 1961 and his Ph.D. in 1965, both from the Western Reserve University. In 1981 he became Professor of Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology at Stanford and Chief of Medicine at Palo Alto Veterans Administration Medical Center. In 1990 he was made Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research & Development, and Corporate Officer of Abbott Laoratories. In 1993 he held the post of CEO at Molecular Geriatrics Corporation. Dr. Murad passed away on Sept.4th, 2023 in the United States.
